Football Parents & Cheerleader Parents --
Since we've moved to the new league this year, Homecoming will be quite different than in years past ~ mainly because we are not all collectively together at the High School all day on a Saturday. From what I've found out from other parks in this new league, many parks don't celebrate a "homecoming". However, your Football & Cheer Board Members felt like it was important to still do something to recognize the kids and let them know how proud we are of them. It's been decided that each team/squad will celebrate "homecoming" at one of their home games. (Please see the schedule outlined below.)
We have asked numerous coaches, team moms and parents for their input and listened to everyone's concerns/suggestions to come up with the best plan possible ~ while still keeping it easy on the parents, but fun for the kids. Really, the goal here is to pump up our players, get crowd involvement soaring and to show our Chelsea spirit.
HOMECOMING 2010 PLAN:
- Each football parent should make a "poster" for their son and bring it ready to hang on your "homecoming" game day. Your Team Mom will help remind you prior to the game.
- Each cheer squad will also make posters/banners in support of their specific team and bring them ready to hang on "homecoming" game day. Your Team Mom will help remind you prior to the game and the cheerleaders will probably spend part of a practice working on this.
- The cheerleaders will release balloons on the spirit line to get the football players really pumped up and ready for their games. Cheer Team Moms for each squad will pick these up at Publix just prior to their game. They have already been paid for by Cheer.
- Papa John's is donating 700+ nerf footballs. Each football player and cheerleader will get one at the end of their "homecoming" game. Additionally, we'll provide the cheerleaders with some footballs to throw out in to the stands during the "homecoming" games. Cheer Coaches and Cheer Team Moms will have them brought to the field the day of the game.
- We will encourage attendance at each of these "homecoming" games and ask that everyone come decked out in their Chelsea Blue apparel to support their players. Invite grandparents, neighbors, friends, etc. to come out and cheer the boys on.
- CYC Cheer is going to pay for cupcakes for every football player and cheerleader to enjoy AFTER the game. Cheer Team Moms will get further instructions on where to pick the cupcakes up the day of their "homecoming" games.
Since we are playing games at night and on school nights, we tried to keep the festivities after the game short so the children could still leave right after the game is over. We simply do not have time during half-time to have the players/cheerleaders walk out on the field and be paired up. Not to mention, our football coaches want those boys focused on the game and not on cheerleaders! They can socialize while eating cupcakes together after the game. :)
In years past, some teams/squads exchanged small gifts between the cheerleaders / football players. While we understand that some may still choose to partake in gift-giving, please understand that the Football/Cheer Boards are not making any formal plans to coordinate or pay for those items. The general consensus is that the kids will be thrilled to get a football and a cupcake at the end of the game. But, should some of you feel the urge to personally splurge, who are we to hold you back?!
We recognize and understand that switching leagues has brought some growing pains and that things are different now in several areas. However, we didn't want to just cancel homecoming festivities entirely as the kids have grown accustomed to it. So, please support this change, especially to your child/ren. And, as always, feel free to contact me or Scott with any questions or concerns. Thanks so much.
